Hi, my name is Gummi!

It's a funny name. You see, I was found wondering around East Naples in 1996. I was scared and lonesome. I don't know why my owners abandoned me, 'cause I had always tried to be the very best dog. A nice Animal Control Officer picked me up and brought me to the Shelter.

They took good care of me while I was waiting to be adopted. But no one seemed to want me 'cause I was old and fat and had no teeth. A nice volunteer came to play with me everyday. I was full of fleas and ticks and needed medical care, so she brought me to the doctors.

The kind volunteer adopted me & I lived with her, my new Dad and some rescued dogs and cats. I loved my new family and they must have loved me very much, 'cause they founded Friends of Gummi, a non-profit animal shelter that provides care for homeless pets so they can get adopted. My Mom and her volunteers finds homes for all the cats and dogs she takes care of. The nice veterinarians offer big discounts to her. Still, there are too many of my buddies that get put to sleep. This is very sad for all of us.

Mom & Dad match all donations to the Friends of Gummi. It would be nice if you wanted to help us too!

I am now in Doggie Heaven, since 2001, with many of my shelter friends.

Hi, my name is Boots!

My name is Boots and I'm a nine year old boy kitty. My Mom tells me I'm pretty famous in Naples, because in June/1999 a bad man threw me into a glass door at the Crossroads Publix.

A nice girl who worked at the Emergency Pet Hospital rushed me there, but I was in a coma. For almost eight days I slipped in and out of consciousness and almost died. All the veterinarians who looked after me thought I wouldn't live, but my Mom wanted me to live. So she bottle fed me, sang to me, held me a lot, and even let me sleep on her chest.

And after a couple of weeks, I felt better and could eat and drink on my own. My Mom was so proud when I could actually use my litter pan, because the doctors thought I might have brain damage. I'm glad I don't remember any of this, because now I'm a very happy, playful and snuggly kitty. I have lots of fun living here with my Mom and Dad, my friend cat named Puddles who acts like I'm her boy, and five little older doggies that my Mom rescued from the Animal Shelter.

Everyone here loves me so much and my Mom keeps telling me how much fun I am. I like to be bad sometimes and my Mom and Dad laugh and hug me and tell me I'm cute when I'm bad. I also have lots of tiny kitten friends cause my Mom rescues little kitties from around Collier County and they live with us 'till she finds good homes for them where someone will love them forever. I love playing with the new kittens, and I pretend I'm their mommy cause I lick them clean, and put my arms around them, and sleep with them to keep them warm. Lots of them don't have mommies of their own, so I'm extra 'specially nice to those ones.

And I like to share my toys. I guess I'm spoiled 'cause I have lots of toys. I have furry mice that squeak in a high voice, lots of balls with bells, tiny mice with beans inside that rattle when I shake them, little balls made of foil that make a crunchy sound, but my most favorite toys are my Mom's glasses, the TV remote control, the corners of my Mom's books, and the paper clips in the little bowl on her desk.

I like to spill them! And I love to watch the cat videos on my TV and also the screen savers on my Moms computer, I try to catch the things that fly around on her monitor. She never scolds me, but always says what a cool kitty I am. I hope your family loves you that much too.

P.S. The bad man who threw me into the window and almost killed me confessed to the judge that he did it. But the judge didn't fine the man, or make him serve any time in jail at all, or make him do any community service.

Update:  Our beloved Boots passed away in December 2008 of multiple organ failure. He was the love of our life, sadly missed but always in our hearts.
